Chip Fu (Fu-Schnickens) Interview

Chip Fu is an emcee and singer from Brooklyn, NY. He’s most popular as a member of the trio Fu-Schnickens, who were all friends from East Flatbush. In the early 90s, the group performed at Howard University, which quickly led to being signed by Jive Records. The Fu-Schnickens’ debut single “Ring The Alarm” reached the Billboard charts in 1992, followed by their debut album F.U. Don’t Take It Personal that reached gold status. In 1994, the group released its sophomore album, Nervous Breakdown, with the hit single “What’s Up, Doc?” featuring Shaquille O’Neal. The group disbanded and Chip Fu reinvented himself as a solo artists, combining Reggae into his Hip Hop foundation. He was featured on Nas’ remix of “Where Are They Now”, as well as collaborations with Queen Latifah and Ali Shadeed Muhammad (A Tribe Called Quest). Chip released two mixtapes in 2011, Stop Playing Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 and created his record label and film company, BLAQ-INK. In 2013, Chip released his debut solo album, War Paint, with features from Pete Rock, Khrysis, !llmind, Black Milk, S1, and more.
