Wais P | Interview
Wais P is an emcee from Brooklyn, NY. Growing up, he was exposed to the crack/cocaine epidemic as well as the prostitution rings that ran rampant during Reagan’s administration. Wais linked up with childhood friends J Runnah and H.A.P.H. to form the group Da Ranjahz. In 1996, Da Ranjahz released the single “Daily Basis” into the New York hip hop scene, produced by Big Jaz. They were recognized Jay-Z and later signed to Hova’s Carter Faculty imprint through Roc-A-Fella Records in 1998. Both Wais and H.A.P.H. were featured on Jay Z’s album, Vol. 2: Hard Knock Life, which went five-times platinum and became Grammy award-winning. Da Ranjahz later signed with Def Jam but ended up releasing their debut album, Who Feels It Knows, in 2003 and gained an industry buzz with the single “Insp Her Ation”, featuring Cee-Lo and produced by DJ Premier. Wais also found an angle that had previously not been used through New York’s hip hop scene, which was pimping. Under the apprenticeship of the nation’s top pimps, Wais’ music career took a back seat to the daily activities of his newfound profession. In 2011, he released the mixtape, It’s In The Game, with production by DJ Premier and Statik Selektah. His debut solo album will be called Pimpin’ Saved My Life, executive produced by Deric Angelettie.
