Ray West | Interview

Ray West is a hip hop producer from Bronx, NY. With history dating back to the 80s, he grew up watching his mother play the piano while his grandfather sang by her side. Inspired at age 12 by two DJs on his block, they gave Ray some old turntables and a mixer. In high school, he made mixtapes, practiced DJing, and purchased vinyl. In the 90s, Ray was sampling old records with drums on 4 track tapes, before later graduating to the MPC. Ray teamed up with A.G. and Abdul Jabar to start a vinyl-only record company called Red Apples 45. In 2012, Ray released a compilation album, LUV NY, with A.G., Roc Marciano, Kurious, Kool Keith, and O.C.
