Nikki Jean | Interview

Nikki Jean is a singer/songwriter and musician from St. Paul, MN. At age 6, she as inspired to become a musician after watching the all-star tribute to Irving Berlin celebrate the his 100th birthday. Nikki studied and lived the arts of songwriting, singing, and performing. She later moved to Philadelphia and linked up with The Roots, Jill Scott, and Nona Hendryx (from the original “Lady Marmalade” song). While working on her own music, Nikki contributed lyrics and the chorus to Lupe Fiasco’s 2008 hit single “Hip Hop Saved My Life”. That same year, Nikki performed on The Glow In The Dark Tour with Kanye West, Lupe Fiasco, Rihanna, and N.E.R.D. In 2011, Nikki signed with indie label S-Curve Records and released her debut solo album, Pennies In A Jar. The lead single “Steel & Feathers” was co-written by Bob Dylan. The album contains the track “Million Star Motel” with Lupe Fiasco and Black Thought.
