Jean Grae | Interview

Jean Grae is an emcee and hip hop producer from New York City. Born in South Africa to Jazz musician parents, she studied vocal performance before joining a hip hop group in the 1990s called Natural Resource. Jean was featured on singles by Pumpkinhead, Bad Seed, Original Blunted Soldiers, Brooklyn Academy. In 2002, her debut album, Attack Of The Attacking Things, was released. Jean followed up in 2004 with the album, This Week. In 2008, she recorded an unreleased album, Jeanius, with producer 9th Wonder. The album was leaked online, and it wasn’t until 2011 when Jean released her next project, Cookies Or Comas. The project features Styles P, Talib Kweli, and Pharoahe Monch, In 2013, she released Dust Ruffle, a collection of unreleased songs between 2004 and 2010.
