GQ of Jamla Records | Interview

GQ is an emcee from Oakland, CA. At age 9, he found a passion in music and began writing his first rhymes. In school, he was more focused on basketball and was recruited to UNC’s program in 2004, where he was a member of the National Championship team the following year. After his college career and an injury that would prevent him from being recruiting into a professional league, GQ received a text from 9th Wonder via a mutual friend. In 2009, GQ signed to 9th Wonder’s Jamla Squad. In 2010, GQ was featured on the NBA Live 10 video game and released a three-part mixtape series, Blended, in 2011. At the end of the year, GQ released his first official project, Trouble Man EP, produced by 9th Wonder, Eric G, Khrysis, and more. In 2013, GQ released the second installment of his series, Death Threats & Love Notes: The Prelude. The project features Rapsody, Carlitta Durand, and Rocki Evans, with production from Amp, E. Jones, 9th Wonder, Ka$h, and more.
