DJ Revolution | Interview
DJ Revolution is a hip hop producer and DJ from Los Angeles, CA. As one of the most respected DJs in the world, he has been an integral member of The Wake Up Show with hosts Sway and King Tech; one of the longest running commercial hip hop show in history. The show has helped launch the careers of some of the biggest name in hip hop, including Eminem, Xzibit, and Common. At age 11, Rev was so interested in music, that his grandfather brought him to the local college radio station to listen. He handed down an old pair of turntables to Rev, and showed him the basics steps of operation. Spent every earned dollar on records, and made custom tapes to sell in school. Soon after, he heard a hip hop song for the first time, “The Adventures Of Grandmaster Flash On The Wheels Of Steel”. Ten years later, Rev drove to Los Angeles with no connections. He worked odd jobs and eventually landed a position at Hits Magazine, meeting Prince Ice, who eventually became a good friend. The Wake Up Show was on air and Rev sent a mix tape to King Tech. Two weeks later, Prince Ice told him that Tech invited Rev on the show to perform a short set. DJ Revolution has now produced and collaborated with Dilated Peoples, Canibus, Chino XL, Tha Alkaholiks, Boot Camp Clik, and many more hip hop greats. He has released countless mixtapes and has performed in several countries around the world. His first two solo albums are R2K Version 1 (1999) and In 12’s We Trust (2000). He also collaborated on the classic Sway & Tech compilation album, This Or That, in 1999. Check out Revolution’s most recent album in 2011, Steel Wheel.
