Statik Selektah | Interview

Statik Selektah is a DJ, producer, and CEO of ShowOff Records. From Lawrence, MA, Statik Selektah was exposed to production equipment at an early age, and was DJing school functions as a teenager. After hearing DJ Premier mix records and scratch on Hot 97, Statik wanted to master the craft. In 2000, he enrolled in an audio production program and began releasing mixtapes. He is responsible for introducing Termanology to the world. Statik has produced for many artists, including Foxy Brown, AZ, Joey Bada$$, KRS-One, Mobb Deep, Nas, Jadakiss, M.O.P., Styles P, Bumpy Knuckles, and countless others. Statik has produced for Rockstar Games, recorded an album with Saigon in a 24 hour period, and was the DJ for Q-Tip on the 2009 Renaissance World Tour. In 2010, Statik released the album Population Control on Duck Down Music with features from Sean Price, Freddie Gibbs, Mac Miller, Styles P, Saigon, Action Bronson, Bun B, Talib Kweli, Strong Arm Steady, Rapsody, and more. His latest album, Extended Play, was released in 2013 with features from Action Bronson, Raekwon, Black Thought, N.O.R.E., Lil Fame, Mike Posner, Termanology, Posdnuos (De La Soul), Troy Ave, Smif-N-Wessun, Flatbush Zombies, & more. On Thursday nights, you can hear Statik on Sirius XM’s Shade 45.
