Rockness (Heltah Skeltah) | Interview

Rock is an emcee from Brooklyn, NY, and member of the hip hop collective Boot Camp Clik and the duo Heltah Skeltah. His voice is distinct with a deep, grimey sound and rugged flow. Heltah Skeltah debuted on Smif-N-Wessun’s album, Dah Shinin’, in 1995. They released their debut album in 1996, Nocturnal, which sold over 250,000 copies in the U.S. and has been named an underground classic. Heltah Skeltah released a group album with Boot Camp Clik in 1997, For The People, followed by the duo’s sophomore album in 1998, Magnum Force. After a solo ventuer, Rock was recording again in 2005 with Boot Camp Clik, featuring on Sean Price’s album, Monkey Barz, and Smif-N-Wessun’s album, Reloaded. The Boot Camp Clik released their third group album in 2006, The Last Stand. In 2008, Heltah Skeltah recorded their third album, D.I.R.T., which stands for Da Incredible Rap Team. Rock stayed busy with multiple solo projects and released an album in 2010, Rockin’ Out West, reflecting his time spent in Los Angeles and featuring Kurupt, Ras Kass, Nate Dogg, and more.
